Zanskar in a raft - Part 3

Knowing that our last hot shower was had the day before we loaded up on a high carb breakfast and all of us piled into our trusty mini bus. The next stretch of the journey would take us from the town of Kargil to valley of Rangdum.

Kargil to Rangdum

This section of the road had been mostly washed away in the floods and it had just opened a few days before. The Aquaterra away party had already been setup in Rangdum and due to the floods were cut off for a few days. Fortunately no one was hurt, and all the rafts and gear were safely stationed in Rangdum, waiting for our arrival.

This section of our drive was probably the most scenic, with lush green forests and our first look at glaciers. It got progressively colder the further we drove and we were told that Rangdum would be the coldest place on our trip (Excluding all the freezing water, that was soon to come).

Below is a gallery of the drive

Rangdum looked like a ghost town, with a single sign board and a dilapidated house

From Rangdum onwards our only accommodation would be 2 person tents. That night was amazingly cold and due to uneven ground that we slept on, my feet had pins and needles.

Even after the rather uncomfortable night, most of us were excited to get started the next day, since this would be the last leg of our road journey and we would finally be at the River.
